Completed February 2017

HPAC has delivered two new projects for the Wahroonga Adventist School including;

  • Construction of new classrooms and laboratories
  • Construction of the new sporting complex (Stages 2 and 4)
Classrooms and Laboratories

In 2015 HPAC were engaged to construct new modular classrooms and laboratories at the Wahroonga Adventist School to accommodate the students while the new teaching facility was being built. Working in a live school environment required careful planning to minimize disruption to staff and students, HPAC were also required to provide new infrastructure and services connections from the school to the new buildings.

Working in a live school environment required careful planning to minimise disruption to staff and students.  Careful planning regarding services shutdowns and services connections reduced disruption to staff and students, enabling the school to remain fully operational at all times.

These works included;

  • New classrooms
  • New Science rooms
  • New laboratories
  • New Design and technology workshop
  • Mechanical, hydraulic and electrical services
  • Access ramps and stairs
  • Landscaping

Following the completion of the new teaching facility HPAC were asked to relocate the classrooms to another campus at Macarthur which was successfully completed in February 2017.

HPAC was engaged  in an Early Contractor Involvement, Design and Construct role for stages 2 and 4 of the construction of the new sporting complex.

  • Tennis & basketball courts
  • Spectator stands
  • Amenities
  • Services and structural design
  • Site remediation

  • Construction of footings for retaining walls to playing areas
  • Construction of sand stone retaining walls (including geotextile fabric) to playing area
  • Cut and filling of playing area to required levels
  • Detailed excavation
  • Concrete ramp and stair works
  • Masonry low height walls
  • Bored piers
  • Balustrade and handrails
  • Tactiles
  • Ball control fencing
  • Pole lighting
  • Installation of 80A MCCB to the existing site main switchboard
  • New DB board and submains for board including all trenching
  • Stormwater drainage including dispersion trenches
  • Topsoil and turf
  • Irrigation to playing area
  • Planting and brick edge garden beds

With the project initially over budget, HPAC worked closely with the consultants, client, and superintendent on redesigning/re-engineering the retaining wall system and hydraulic drainage design.  This brought the project back to budget, and allowed the works to proceed.  The project also had potential risks, being located adjacent to an ecologically sensitive environment surrounding the site on 3 sides.  Through careful planning and management, no issues occurred during the works.

The project was completed on budget with nil variations.  To offset latent conditions discovered on the site, HPAC worked closely with the project team to re-design the lighting system, the structural design of pavilion slab and sports courts to ensure further cost savings were found.

The project was completed 4 weeks ahead of programme.
